The mind palace — also known as the memory of loci — is a memorization technique which has been used for thousands years. The techniques involves storing pieces of information in one's own, personalized location.
The pieces of information are attributed to certain places or objects in the loci, and a unique image is formed between the data and locative feature. One would simply walk through these loci in order to activate the data.
Mind Palace depicts a person's futile attempts at memorizing a 48-note sequence. The sequence is introduced at the start of the piece, and deteriorates more and more with every hopeless repeat. Eventually, only a few fragments of the sequence remain intact.
The person attempts to fit the sequential fragments into different stylistic patterns, such as rock and jazz; after being filtered through these idioms, the person obsessively attaches themselves to what appears at the top of their mind: the opening 5 notes in the sequence.
